Yola, April 26, 2018 (NAN) Adamawa Government is to establish a peace building unit as part of measures to promote peace and unity in the state.
The Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Ahmad Sajoh, made this known Thursday in Yola at a stakeholders meeting on peace/dialogue organised by an international NGO, Search for Common Ground (SFCG) in collaboration with the state government.
Sajoh, who is also the chairman of Peace Architecture Dialogue (PAD) in the state, said government would collaborate with SFCG in establishing the unit.
He noted the side effects to development caused by series of conflicts in the state and tasked stakeholders on the need for a common ground for early response and lasting solutions to conflicts in the state.
“We must find common ground where we will build bridges of peace,” Sajoh said.
He explained that already training on early warning and response to crisis had been provided for Administrators of Development areas in the state, adding that similar training would be extended to District Heads.
He lauded the media in the state for observing social responsibility in their reportage of conflicts in the state, a development he said helped in dousing tension.
In his remarks, the Country Director of SFCG, Mr Rajendra Mulmi, said the organization which has been assisting in peace building started with Plateau in 2010 and was now intervening in Adamawa and Borno states.
He lauded the commitment of stakeholders to peace in the affected states and assured the organization readiness to continue to support their efforts in various ways.
Highlights of the meeting by stakeholders comprising state government officials, security, traditional and religious leaders was identification of some security challenges facing communities and suggesting ways to address them through dialogue. (NAN)
