Generator mechanic docked for alleged robbery

Lagos, April 26, 2018 (NAN) A generator mechanic, David Adekoya, 30, on Thursday, appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly robbing a woman of her handbag containing items worth over 528,000 and 560,000 cash at gunpoint.

Adekoya, who resides at No. 12, Faremil Street, Baruwa Ipaja, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel, told the court that the accused committed the offences with others still at large on Feb. 16 at Egbeda, Lagos while on a motorcycle.

He said that Adekoya and his accomplices robbed one Augustina Afolabi of her handbag which contained a mobile phone worth N48,000, necklace , wristwatch, wedding ring worth N480,000 and N560, 000 cash.

The prosecutor said the accused was armed with a gun.

He alleged that the complainant was on her way to a bank to deposit the cash when she was attacked by the accused who was later apprehended by the police.

Samuel said the offences contravened Section 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides for two years imprisonment for conspiracy.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.I. Abina, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Abina, who said the sureties must be gainfully employed, adjourned the case until May 14 for mention. (NAN)
