Pankshin (Plateau) April 20, 2018 (NAN) The Federal College of Education, Pankshin on Friday matriculated 880 fresh students with its Provost, Prof. Amos Cirfat, tasking the students to strive to be quality teachers.

“What the nation needs today are quality teachers; you must work hard to provide that.

“Good teachers cannot be involved in negative tendencies like cultism, disobedience, hooliganism and examination malpractice. You must shun such negative tendencies,” he said.

Cirfat told the students to count themselves lucky to be admitted, saying that competitions for the spaces were “very stiff”.

He urged the students, who would undertake B.Ed courses in six schools of the college, to work hard so as to meet up with the high standards that the college was known for, promising that the school would provide a conducive environment to facilitate that.

Also speaking, Prof. Sebastine Maimako, Vice Chancellor, University of Jos, lamented the incessant strikes in the universities, saying that the trend had affected the academic calendars of many institutions.

Maimako, however, commended the college, an affiliate of the university, for the tremendous improvement it had recorded over time. (NAN)
