Ikeja, April 19, 2018 (NAN) Two men, Sulaimon Quadri and Jubril Adetunji were on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly robbing a man of N4,000.
Quadri, 42, a driver, resides at Ejigbo, near Lagos and Adetunji, 47, a mechanic, lives at Iyana-Ilogbo in Ogun.
The duo is facing a charge of conspiracy and robbery for allegedly robbing one Fakunle Akinloye.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, said the accused committed the offences with some others still at large on March 31 along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos.
He said that the accused robbed Akinloye after his tyres burst on his way home from work.
“The complainant was returning from work when his car plunged into a pothole and two of his car tyres burst.
“As he tried to fix the tyres, the accused came and demanded he gave them N20, 000 before he can be allowed to fix his tyres.
“In the process, they dipped their hands inside the complainant’s pocket and removed N4, 000 and still demanded a balance of N16, 000.
“Akinloye called his brother to bring some money to him but he however, arrived the scene with some policemen.
“The accused were arrested, while the others took to their heels,’’ he said.
Akinloye said the offences contravened Sections 296 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 296 prescribes a 21-year jail term for robbery.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In her ruling, the Magistrate Mrs F.F. George, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties should be gainfully employed and that they should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
George adjourned the case until May 3. (NAN)
