Woman docked for allegedly assaulting police officer

Abuja, April 18, 2018 (NAN) The Police on Wednesday docked one Agu Nneoma, at a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly resisting lawful arrest and assaulting a police officer.

The defendant, who resides at Waru village, Abuja, is facing a four-count charge of resisting lawful arrest, criminal force, assault and causing hurt.

The prosecutor, Zannan Dalhatu, told the court that one Sgt. Rakiyat Yunusa, a police officer attached to Utako Police Station, Abuja, reported the matter on April 16.

Dalhatu alleged that on that same date, one Josiah Agu of Lokogoma, Abuja, reported the defendant at the station.

“Sgt. Yunusa was sent to invite the defendant to the station.

“The defendant resisted arrest, formed criminal intention, assaulted and inflicted injuries on the police officer, while performing her lawful duty.

“The officer was rushed to Wuse General Hospital for treatment as a result of injuries she sustained,’’ he said.

Dalhatu said the offences contravened Sections 173, 264, 265 and 246 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against her.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20, 000, with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until May 14, for hearing. (NAN)
