Ibadan, April 17, 2018 (NAN) The Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) has warned practitioners to conform to ethical practices or risk sanctions from the authorities.
Mr Yemi Gbadegesin, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, NISLT, gave the warning on Tuesday in Ogbomoso during the induction of 163 graduates of Science Laboratory Technology (SLT), at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.
Gbadegesin stressed the need for practitioners to provide value-added services aimed at protecting the interest of patients.
He urged the relevant institutions to emphasise more practical-oriented programmes in teaching Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) than theories.
“On our own, we shall continue to maintain that laboratory results are accurate, acceptable and of international standard,’’ he said.
The registrar said that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), had recognised the Certificate of Analysis of the institute.
“The Institute has also approved seal for the purpose of product generation,’’ he said.
Earlier, Prof. Adeniyi Gbadegesin, the Vice-Chancellor, LAUTECH, commended NISLT for being consistent in monitoring its members and enforcing discipline in the profession.
Gbadegesin, who was represented by Prof. Gbade Oyediran, Chairman, Committee of Provost and Deans, LAUTECH, said there was need for close monitoring of professionals to check sharp practices.
Laboratories, according to him, deal with products that affect human race, and as such, deserve close supervision and surveillance. (NAN)
