Abuja, April 16, 2018 (NAN) Ahmed Jada, the Secretary, Nigeria Traditional Boxing Premier League, on Monday, says Kano State will host the last phase of the 2017/2018 traditional boxing tournament.
Jada told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the tournament would hold at the Ado Bayero square, Sabo Gari, Kano from April 26 to April 29.
He said that the league started with eight states namely: Katsina, Niger, Kano, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Ogun and the FCT.
“We travelled to all the participating states; Kano is the last state to host the competition this season; everything has been put in place to start the event in Kano.
“Kano won their last game in Abuja with 12 points, the host, FCT took second position with 10 points and Nasarawa came third with nine points.
“We are working hard to make our games popular like football. We want to introduce junior categories in 53kg and 40kg in the next season.
“This is the way to introduce the game at the grassroots, we are also working hard to see that our games feature in international events in the near future,’’ he said.
Jada added that funding had been the major challenge of the league and called for support from government and private companies. (NAN)
