Abeokuta, April 16, 2018 (NAN) The Ogun Government under its “Save One Million Lives Initiative” has distributed more than 500 essential basic equipment to Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state.
Gov. Ibikunle Amosun in his address at a distribution exercise in Abeokuta on Monday said the initiative was part of efforts to further strengthen the state’s health sector.
Amosun, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, said government’s health programmes were all geared toward ensuring quality healthcare delivery to the people.
He listed some of the programmes to include the Community Based Health Insurance Scheme (ARAYA) and the renovation of the State Cold Store for the preservation of vaccines.
The governor urged health workers to be diligent at their duty posts and ensure proper maintenance of the new equipment.
“While the state government will continue to play its constitutional role of providing quality healthcare service delivery, I wish to implore all our health workers to be alive to their duties.
“In particular, they are enjoined to make good use of the equipment being distributed and to adequately maintain them to serve the good people of the state,” Amosun said.
He also urged citizens to partner with the state government in the provision of healthcare services through the payment of their taxes as and when due.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Babatunde Ipaye, said that the equipment, which include delivery and examination beds as well as incubators, were procured to save lives.
“I want to implore my colleagues, particularly the medical officers from our local government areas and Local Council Development Areas, that we must make sure these equipment are judiciously used because a normal delivery will save hundreds and thousands of lives.
“If we are able to take blood pressure accurately, we will be able to save several walking corpse across our local government areas,” the commissioner said.
Also speaking, Dr Adekunle Solarin, the Chairman, State Medical Officers on Health, commended the state government over the equipment, saying that the initiative was the first of its kind in the state. (NAN)
