Ilorin, April 12, 2018 (NAN) The Chief Coach of Kwara United FC of Ilorin, Suleiman Ashifat, on Thursday advocated for an improvement in the officiating of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches.
Ashifat said in Ilorin that good officiating would not only improve the performance of the country’s representatives at the continent but produce true champions.
He explained in a statement by the club’s Media Officer, Abdulwaheed Bibire, that a level playing ground for all the teams would encourage good football and allow the fans to get value for their money.
Ashifat noted that attendance at the stadia would also greatly improve, while the lost glory would be rekindled if there were good officiating across match venues.
The coach, however, commended the League Management Company (LMC), for punishing erring officiating officials, adding that there was always room for improvement.
The Harmony Boys coach berated the referee for the 1-1 draw with Enyimba FC on the rescheduled Match Day 16 encounter played on Wednesday in Ilorin.
He particularly questioned the referee’s maturity, noting that some inconsistencies in his officiating in the match would have dragged the competition to disrepute.
A 9th minute penalty converted by Ikechukwu Ibenegbu for Enyimba FC of Aba and a 51th minute beautiful strike by Stephen Alfred for Kwara United gave the People’s Elephant an away point. (NAN)
