Ogun directs industries to obtain environmental approval

Approval
Abeokuta, April 12, 2018 (NAN) The Ogun Government on Thursday directed industries operating without environmental approvals in the state to obtain the document to avoid sanctions.

Mr Bolaji Oyeleye, the State Commissioner for Environment, gave the directive during an inspection tour of industries in Ogere-Remo axis of the state.

Oyeleye said the state Environmental Sanitation Task Force team had discovered that many industries were operating without the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or Environmental Implication Studies (EIS) approvals.

He said it was no longer business as usual for such industries.

Oyeleye was represented on the tour by Mr Oyesiku Amosun, the Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Ibikunle Amosun on Environment.

The commissioner urged the defaulting industries to obtain approvals from the government-approved environmental consultants, warning that failure would attract fines.

He said there was need for industries to put in place waste water treatment plants, noting that law prohibits the discharge of effluent with constituents beyond permissible limits into the environment.

Oyeleye promised that the activities of industries in the state would continually be monitored to safeguard the health of people. (NAN)
