Ikeja, April 12, 2018 (NAN) A 31-year-old computer operator, Samuel Olawale, who allegedly stole some cables belonging to Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency, was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Olawale, who resides at Berger area of Lagos, is facing a charge of stealing.

Police Prosecutor, Godwin Awase, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 31, at Alausa, Ikeja in Lagos.

Awase said the accused stole the electric cables, the value of which was yet to be ascertained.

“The accused entered the garden at night and dug out the cables which supply light to the garden.

“He rolled the cables inside a polythene bag and was about to escape when a security guard on patrol caught him.

“The stolen cables were recovered and the accused was handed over to the police,” he said.

Awase said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs F.F George, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

George said the sureties should be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until April 16 for mention. (NAN)
