Man in court for allegedly stealing woman’s purse

Abuja, April 9, 2018 (NAN) The Police on Monday arraigned a 23-year-old man, Idris Omata, in a Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a woman’s purse.
The defendant, who resides at Nyanya, Abuja, was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on criminal trespass and theft, offences the defendant denied committing.
The prosecutor, Vincent Osuji, told the court that one Solomon Ekene of Kurudu, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station, Abuja, on March 30, at about 4:p.m.
“The complainant alleged that on same date and at about 15:30p.m., the defendant came to his shop at Karu market and requested for a drink.
“While he was trying to serve him the drink, the defendant dishonestly stole his wife’s purse.
“Police later found the purse on the accused, just as he confessed to have committed the crime,” Osuji said.
Osuji said the offences contravened Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Hassan Ishaq, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until April 30, for hearing. (NAN)
