Bauchi, April 9, 2018 (NAN) Bauchi  State Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA) says the agency will train 2,000 volunteers on treatment of minor ailments in communities.

The Executive Chairman of the agency, Mr Adamu Gamawa, said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday  in Bauchi.

He said the agency had a training target of 2,000 as Community Oriented Resource Persons (CORPS).

He added that “so far, we trained only 60 volunteers and our target is to train 2,000.

“The volunteers would be trained in batches and we plan to train 70 volunteers in the next batch.

“The training is part of strategy to improve health service delivery through community management.”

Gamawa explained that the volunteers would assist health workers in providing treatment to anyone with minor ailment such as malaria, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea and others, without taking the sufferers to any facility.

He said the volunteers would then be able to refer such patients to nearby facilities if the case was
beyond their understanding.

He added that the strategy was in partnership with donor agencies, Federal Ministry of Health and the state government.

The agency chairman noted that the training would last for three weeks, adding that supervisors would be trained for one week, one week for training the trainers and the last one week for volunteers.

He added that the agency would also constitute a team of health workers that would include medical doctors, nurses and midwives for hard to reach areas programme.

The team would be provided with additional training on preventive health care services in areas such as immunisations, family planning , supervising delivery, antenatal/postnatal care, he said. (NAN)‎
