Man, 35, jailed 1 year for theft

Abuja, April 6, 2018 (NAN) A Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 35-year-old man, Moses Christian, to one year imprisonment for stealing his employer’s television sets worth N165,000.
The convict, a resident of Phase 3, Jikwoyi, Abuja, had pleaded guilty to a five-count charge of breach of trust, theft, house-breaking, mischief and misappropriation, and begged for leniency.
The judge, Mr Hassan Ishaq, in convicting the man, gave him an option to pay N31, 000 fine and N165, 000 to the owner of the television sets as compensation.
The Prosecutor, Mr Vincent Osiji, had told the court that one Nadada attached to EFCC Academy, Karu, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on March 5, at about 3 p.m.
Osiji said the complainant alleged that the convict, an employer of EFCC Academy broke into one of the school’s hostels and stole three LG Plasma television sets valued at N165, 000.
He added that the convict, after stealing the items, sold one to Dan Auta.
The prosecutor told the court that the offences contravened sections 314, 289, 353, 327 and 309 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
