Masaka (Nasarawa State), Nov. 6, 2016 (NAN) Some traders in Masaka market, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, have implored the State Government to beef up the security in the market to save lives and property.
The traders called on the State Government to immediately deploy additional security personnel in the market so as to forestall any breaches of security.
The chairman of the Masaka Market Association, Mr Sunday Danladi, who spoke with journalists on Sunday in Masaka, said the need for additional security in the market could not be overstressed.
He said the provision of adequate security in the market would not only curtail the activities of criminals but also make the traders to always sleep ‘with their two eyes closed’.
“The importance for the establishment of any market cannot be over-emphasized; it improves on the standard of living of both the traders and the consumers.
“It will also fight poverty, unemployment and boost the revenue base of individuals and government authorities.
“The major problem affecting traders and consumers in this market is bad road network, this has affected our business activities and lives negatively especially during the rainy season.
“The market roads are damaged; this has a serious effect on the market and that is why we are calling on the Nasarawa Government to construct a good road network for us,” he said.
Danladi said that if the market roads were properly constructed, it would also help in fighting insecurity as well as improving the standard of living of the residents.
According to him, the improvement of the market infrastructure will boost the socio-economic activities of the area.
“We also need water, electricity and good drainage in order to boost our socio-economic activities,” he added.
He called on the traders to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and to support government policies and programmes for the overall development of the country.
The chairman, however, lauded the State Government for its efforts in constructing markets across the state and called for its sustenance.
