Ile-Ife (Osun), April 5, 2018 (NAN) An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Thursday remanded in prison two men — Kingsley Sunday and Adigun Moshood — for allegedly breaking into a warehouse and stealing goods worth N2.5 million.
Sunday, 38, and Moshood, 43, are facing a six-count charge of conspiracy, housebreaking, entering, stealing, intent to commit felony and receiving stolen property.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 25 about 5.15 p.m. at Obalufon Street, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said the accused conspired and broke into a warehouse belonging to the complainant, Mr Emmanuel Okoh, and stole some goods.
According to him, the accused stole 15 refrigerators, 12 freezers, 10 water dispensers, 30 pieces of iron rods, one complete vehicle engine, motor parts and seven vehicle batteries.
Other stolen items are 10 power generators, 10 refrigerator compressors, 10 television sets, 10 Hifi players, 10 DVD/ VCD players, one welding machine and 10 stabilizers.
The prosecutor alleged that Moshood received the stolen items knowing full well that they were stolen by one Kingsley, who offered him N11, 000.
Osanyintuyi added that Moshood assaulted Sgt. Akinpelu Olaoluwa of the Nigeria Police ‘A’ Division, Ile-Ife, by using sharp objects to injure his thumb when the policeman wanted to arrest him.
The offences contravened Sections 356, 383, 390 (9), 410, 411, 427 and 516 of Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Ben Adirieje, applied for their bails, promising that they would not jump bail.
Magistrate Ishola Omisade refused the oral application for the bails of the accused but directed the lawyer file written applications.
Omisade said the remand of the accused would serve as a deterrent to others.
He adjourned the case until April 26 for hearing. (NAN)
