Man, 64, docked over alleged possession of Indian hemp

Ile-Ife (Osun), April 4, 2018 (NAN) A 64-year-old man, Adeleye Joseph, was on Wednesday docked at an Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife, over the alleged possession of Indian hemp.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 1, 2018 around 05.40 p.m. at Lafogido St., Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said the accused unlawfully had in his possession some quantities of weed suspected to be Indian hemp.
He said the offence contravened Section 430 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused, through his lawyer, Mrs Innocental Akhigbe, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of unlawful possession of Indian hemp.
The Magistrate, Mr Muhibah Olatunji, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Olatunji said the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She directed that one of the sureties must be his blood relation and that the other surety should produce a tax clearance certificate for the last three years.
The case was adjourned until April 9, for hearing. (NAN)
