Daura (Katsina), March 31, 2018 (NAN) Peace Builders Security Concepts, an Abuja-based NGO, says it is partnering with the Katsina State Government to tackle social vices like political thuggery, drug abuse and drunkenness.
Alhaji Ibrahim Katsina, its Coordinator, who disclosed this on Saturday, when the group paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Farouk Umar, said that the NGO was particularly concerned about youth restiveness and was committed to checking it.
“The Katsina State Government has agreed to partner with us to tackle the activities of political thuggery groups like `Kauraye’ and `Yandaba’.
“We have also agreed to work together to check redundancy and laziness; we also want to reduce crime rates and ensure that our youths are mentored toward becoming assets to the society,” he said.
He blamed politicians for the rising political thuggery in Katsina State, saying that the vice had thrived because of steady patronage by desperate politicians.
The Coordinator regretted that many innocent people had come under attacks and intimidation by political thugs, saying that such thuggery had widened the level of insecurity, compromised value system and endangered the future of the society.
He called for stringent measures to cut the supply chain of hard drugs and other narcotics, and urged the media to educate youths on the dangers of such vices.
“People in privileged positions should also strive to empower the youths and minimise indolence that is largely responsible for the vices,” he said, adding that his group was engaging traditional and religious leaders to tackle the issues.
Ibrahim said that the NGO would hold a stakeholders meeting in Daura in April, where the issues would be examined and solutions proffered.
In his remarks, the Emir thanked the NGO for the deep concern, and promised full support for its crusade.
Umar commended the Katsina government for collaborating with the NGO to tackle the “precarious situation”, noting that drug abuse and youth restiveness had become a major threat to the society.
The Emir promised to engage traditional and religious leaders toward the success of the crusade, and advised parents to keep a close watch on their children to save them from going astray. (NAN)
