Omu-Aran (Kwara), March 29, 2018 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Omu-Aran Unit Command in Kwara on Thursday reiterated its commitment toward a hitch free Easter celebration in the area.
Mr Festus Adetunji, the Unit Commander made the pledge during a Special Easter Public Enlightenment and Rally in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was organised in conjunction with Alatise Vanguard Forum (AVF), a Non-Governmental Organisation.
The event, which attracted commercial drivers, motorcyclists and heads of security agencies in the area has as its theme: “Safer Easter 2018 Through Alcohol and Drug Free Motoring”.
Adetunji said the command’s annual enlightenment and rally had been yielding positive result, saying the rate of road crash had reduced drastically.
He expressed the command’s readiness to partner with other relevant stakeholders toward sustaining the reduction in road crashes and avoid unnecessary casualties.
Adetunji said the command was not unaware of the expected increase in the volume of traffic during the festival, saying it had mobilised adequate personnel to the highways.
He urged the gathering, especially commercial road user to always adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations.
Mr Toluwalase Abikoye, the President, Alatise Vanguard Forum said the need to ensure safety of lives on the roads informed the collaboration.
“We understand the importance of staying alive as parents, civil servants, politicians and students in order to make meaningful contribution to the society.
“As a formidable organ in road safety, we decided to team up with the FRSC in order to drive home their advocacy, sensitisation as regard zero tolerance to road crashes,” he said.
Abikoye said the forum had also mapped out effective strategies toward impacting on the less privileged in the society, especially retirees, widows and destitute.
Mr Solihu Ile-loke, the Divisional Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Omu-Aran Command pledged the cooperation of other agencies toward safer highways.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of crash elements to some commercial motorcyclists. (NAN)
