Lagos, March 27, 2018 (NAN) The police, on Tuesday, arraigned a 52-year-old man, Francis Dada, at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged refusal to pay seven months outstanding hotel bills of N440,000.
The accused, a businessman, who resides at No 3, Peace Village Junction, Lugbe, Abuja, is being tried for obtaining by false pretences and stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offences were committed between August 2017 and March 2018 at 51, Oni St., Micom Bus stop, Akowonjo, Lagos.
Ogu said that the accused lodged in a hotel since Aug. 2, 2017 and deposited N100,000, when he had exhausted the money paid, he was issued with another bill and he promised to pay.
“The accused was there until the money accumulated to N440,000, and the manager of the hotel; Chilly Hotel, went to his room and met him packing.
“The accused had the intention to escape,” Ogu said.
He added that the accused was handed over to the police.
The offence violated Sections 287 and 315 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Chief Magistrate J. A. Adegun, granted the accused bail of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adegun adjourned the case to April 11 for mention. (NAN)
