Love
By Lilian Chukwu
Lagos, March 25, 2018 (NAN) Most Rev. Taiwo Adebanjo, Bishop of the African Church Bethlehem, Lagos Diocese, on Sunday appealed Christians and non Christians to love one another to promote harmony and development of the country.
Adebanjo made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Palm Sunday.
He said that the appeal was necessary because lack of love, peace and unity among Nigerians had negatively affected the development of the country.
The bishop told NAN that Christians, particularly, must show love as they entered the Holy Week which began on Palm Sunday.
He noted that Christians would during the week celebrate the death of Jesus Christ on the cross for the salvation of mankind, saying that Jesus demonstrated love through His death.
“It connotes the love of God for human race. Let us seize this season to be reunited and love one another for peace and development of the country.
“If there is no love, there is no peace and there will be no progress.
“Let there be peace in our homes, workplaces, churches and in the government,” he said.
Adebanjo said that the country would have been more developed if there was love among the citizens.
“Palm Sunday is the day we celebrate the triumphant entry of the Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem as the Saviour and King, riding a donkey,’’ he noted.
The cleric urged Christians and non Christians to pray for the development of the Nigeria.
NAN reports that Palm Sunday is celebrated in many churches with processions carrying branches of palms.
This is to remember that as Jesus rode a donkey into the town of Jerusalem, a large crowd gathered and laid palm branches and their cloaks on the road.
Palm Sunday precedes Easter Sunday when Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (NAN)
