Ile-Ife (Osun), March 22, 2018 (NAN) An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded one Wasiu Omotosho, 50, in prison custody for alleged attempted defilement.

The Prosecutor, Emmanuel Abdullahi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 11 around 2.00 p.m. in Pedro area off AUD Grammar School, Iloro, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the accused attempted to commit felony to wit defilement.

He said that the accused indecently assaulted a 13-year-old girl (name withheld) when he lured her to the back of his workshop and started kissing her and touched other parts of her body.

According to him, the accused conducted himself in a manner that caused breach of peace when he intended to defile the 13-year-old girl.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 249 (d), 360 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to three-count charge of defilement, assault and breach of peace.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Albert Okuovora, applied for bail of the accused in most liberal terms, pledging that his client would not jump bail.

Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji did not grant the bail of the accused, but asked the defence counsel to come with written application.

Olatunji ordered remand of the accused in Ile-Ife Prison pending the consideration of the bail.

The case was adjourned until April 12 for hearing.(NAN)
