Dutse, March 22, 2018 (NAN) The Sule Lamido University (SLU) Kafin Hausa, Jigawa, says it has received the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to offer 15 academic programmes.
The university’s spokesman, Malam Sadiq Lawal, made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen in Dutse on Thursday.
He said the approval was contained in a letter addressed to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, by the NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed.
Lawal said that the NUC’s approval followed the commission’s several visitations to the university, which undertook a resource verification assessment of human and material resources available for the establishment of the programmes.
He explained that 13 out of the 15 programmes secured full accreditation while two others got interim accreditation.
The spokesman added that the accredited programmes are in the Faculties of Humanities, Natural and Applied Sciences and Education.
He said programmes that secured the accreditation under Faculty of Humanities are B.A Arabic, B.A. English, B.A Hausa, B.A. History and B.A Islamic Studies.
Lawal said programmes under Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences that secured accreditation are B.Sc. Biology, B.Sc. Chemistry, B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Mathematics and B.Sc. Physics.
He added that under the Faculty of Education, B.A. (Ed.) English, B.Sc. (Ed.) Biology, B.Sc. (Ed.) Chemistry, B.Sc. (Ed) Mathematics and B.Sc. (Ed) Chemistry also secured accreditation.
The spokesman, however, said B.A. English under Faculty of Humanities and B.Sc. Biology under Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences secured interim accreditation.
According to Lawal, with the development, the university has now got clearance to continue admitting undergraduate students in all its 15 accredited programmes.
He added that the gesture would further enable the university to mobilise its graduates for the one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
‘‘It should be noted that programmes with full accreditation will be revisited by the NUC for another accreditation after five years while those programmes with interim accreditation will be revisited after two years,’’ he added. (NAN)
