Dutse, Nov. 4, 2016 (NAN) The Commissioner for Local Governments Affairs in Jigawa, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad, has called on council employees to submit their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) or miss their salary.

A statement from the spokesman of the ministry of local government affairs in the state, Malam Naji Umar, in Dutse on Friday urged the staff members to submit the BVN to their respective salary desk officers.

It said that the commissioner gave the directive on Thursday when he visited Ringim local government headquarters in continuation of his assessment tour to the 27 local government areas in the state.

The statement said that Ahmed attributed the current delay in the payment of October salary to the inability of the workers to make their BVN to correspond with their salary account numbers.

“The state government through the ministry is fully committed to ensure sanity in the mode of salary payments in the local governments.

“The government will continue to pay salaries on the 25th of every month as it promised,” the statement quoted the commissioner as saying.

It said Ahmed further warned that the state government would not tolerate any form of laziness, lateness or truancy in both the state and local government workforce.

He also said that the government would take appropriate disciplinary action against any staff member in the councils found wanting in his duty.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there was anxiety among civil servants in the state as most of them did not get their October salary early. (NAN)
