NAN correspondent bags awards in United States

Abuja, March 19, 2018 (NAN) Chilee Agunanna, a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has been awarded Best Overall Student at the 26th Annual Multimedia Short Course, organised by the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) in the United States.
Agunanna who is currently on a Study Leave at Texas Southern University (TSU) was also awarded for Best Photography (Only).
He is the first TSU student participant in the course since its inception in 1992.
NAN reports that the course held from March 14 to 17 at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Greensboro.
A delighted Agunanna, told NAN in a telephone interview in Abuja on Monday that 30 students from various universities across the U. S. participated in the course where they worked with seasoned industry professionals.
They produced a newscast, webcasts, video slide shows, podcasts, and related social media websites.
Speaking further, Agunanna thanked the management of the News Agency of Nigeria for permitting him to travel to the United States on a study leave.
He also thanked his professors at TSU for their guidance and support since his arrival in the United States.
“It has been a great experience since my time at TSU and since I joined NABJ. They have been very supportive to me even when I was displaced by Hurricane Harvey.
“I do not take any of these opportunities for granted and I will continue to do my best to be a worthy representative of Nigeria, NAN and TSU,” he said.
Similarly, the coordinator of the course, Prof. Gael Wiggins, in a statement said Agunanna displayed the professional skills and leadership qualities required of a modern day journalist.
“We are very proud to have chosen him as our overall best student this year and we expect great things from him.”
NAN reports that the NABJ is an organisation of journalists, students and media-related professionals that provides quality programs and services to and advocates on behalf of black journalists worldwide.
It was founded by 44 men and women on December 12, 1975, in Washington, D.C.
NABJ is the largest organisation of journalists of color in the United States.
