Abuja, March 5, 2018 (NAN) Prof. Dioha Joseph, the Director of Renewable Energy, Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) says the commission has produced national energy policies that will boost electricity supply in the country.
Joseph made this known on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He said spoke on the sidelines of the 4th Edition of the Annual Science and Technology Expo (FASTTECH 2018) organised by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
“We have produced the national energy policy, everything about energy starts with the policy because it is the policy that will tell you what to do, even if you have the resources.
“It is the policy that will tell you the plan you have, how to deploy those resources to produce the energy you are talking about.
“We have done that in ECN and we have come out with mass sample of what we expect to do in the short, medium, and long term,’’ he said.
Joseph said activities were going on in the commission as investors were coming to be abreast with the policy, the resources and strategies the commission had in place.
ECN is charged with the responsibility for the strategic planning and coordination of national policies in the field of energy in all its ramifications.
The commission also serves as a centre for gathering and dissemination of information relating to national policy in the field of energy; it and also serves as a centre for solving any inter-related technical problems that may arise in the implementation of any policy relating to the field of energy.
The commission also advises the government of the federation or state on questions relating to such aspect of energy.
Speaking on the expo, Joseph said youths had a lot of initiatives because “they think faster than adults’’.
According to him, youths do a lot of activities that can help them to come out with results, the deployment of these observations and experiment will lead to technology.
“So if you imbibe this culture of innovation in the younger ones, they will grow with it and start to have positive thinking on activities that will benefit the future generation,’’ he said.
The Annual Science and Technology Expo organised by the Department of Science and Technology of FCTA is holding from March 13 to March 15. (NAN)
