Katsina, March 14, 2018 (NAN) The Katsina State Government said on Wednesday that the NYSC corps members constitute about 75 per cent of the active workforce in education sector in the state.
Alhaji Ibrahim Khalil, the Special Adviser to Gov. Aminu Masari on Youth Development, disclosed this at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Annual Corps Members Employers Workshop in Katsina.
The theme of the workshop is titled: ‘’Tackling Emerging Challenges on Youth Corps Administration through greater NYSC/Stakeholders participation’’.
Khalil, who is also the Chairman, state NYSC Governing Board, expressed satisfaction over the way corps members accept their posting to serve in the rural communities.
‘’It needs to be stressed that in education sector, NYSC members constitute about 75 per cent of the active workforce.
‘’This takes cognizance of both governmental and non-governmental educational institutions in the state.
‘’We have some tokens for such corps members to encourage them for serving their fatherland in remote parts of the state,’’ he said.
He said the state government considered NYSC as an agent of social, political and economic change.
‘’The scheme is a major driver of the four-point agenda of the present administration which hinge on education, agriculture, health and infrastructure,’’ he said.
In her remarks, the NYSC State Director, Hajiya Ramatu Sanda said that lack of accommodation was one of the major challenges facing some corps members at their places of primary assignments.
She urged the employers to intensify efforts toward providing the corps members with accommodation and allowances to boost their morale for effective service delivery.
Sanda urged participants to actively participate in the workshop in order to come up with recommendations to improve the scheme.(NAN)
