2 men in court over alleged conspiracy, stealing

Lagos, March 14, 2018 (NAN) Two barbing salon operators, Anun Shoneye, 23, and Dayo Olabode, 20, on Wednesday appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged conspiracy and stealing.

The accused persons, Shoneye, a resident of Akala area of Mushin, and Olabode, who lives at Oyingbo, area of Ebute Meta, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendants committed the offences with two others still at large, on Feb. 23, at Ogudu area of Lagos State at 11.00 p.m.

He said that the accused persons stole one Techno cell phone from the complainant, Funmilayo Kolade, who was coming back from work.

“The duo used an unregistered motorcycle to forcefully snatch  the complainant’s bag, containing the cell phone and immediately rode off.

“The accused persons were caught by some passers-by, who came to the rescue of the complainant, and they were handed over to the police at Alapere Police Division,” he said.

Aigbokhan said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 provides a three-year jail term for offenders.

Magistrate O.A. Akokhia granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N40,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

The case was adjourned until May 4. (NAN)
