Ibadan, March 9, 2018 (NAN) Chief Tunde Afolabi, the newly installed Chancellor of Technical University(Tech-U), Ibadan,  has pledged  to establish an  Institute of Energy and Petroleum Technology at the university.

He made the disclosure at his installation as the chancellor of  the university  on Friday in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that Afolabi was installed as the chancellor of the institution by Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State who is  the Visitor to the institution.

NAN also reports that Afolabi, a renowned industrialist,  is a recipient of the country’s national honour of  Member of Federal Republic.

Afolabi said that he would also establish an annual lecture to attract accomplished professionals of international repute to the university.

“I accepted to serve as the pioneer chancellor of this institution out of my deep conviction that lack of tertiary education designed to balance theoretical and practical is a problem needed to be solved.

“The establishment of the institution is a very viable alternative to take the nation out of its present quagmire. I want to be a part of the solution to the intractable deficit of manpower in Nigeria,’’ he said.

He expressed his readiness to be deeply involved in the progress of the university from the foundation, pledging not to be an occasional chancellor.

In his remarks, Ajimobi described Afolabi as a worthy personality, adding that he was confident that he would turn around the institution for good.

The governor said  the institution was established based on  Public Private Partnership  arrangement and expected to attract partners across the world.

He also commended the foundation committee of the university led by a former Head of Service of the Federation, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi,  for its  commitment  toward the dream of establishing the university.

NAN reports that the programme  was attended by former Gov. Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun, Chief Bode Amao, Chief Lekan Are, Mrs  Tola Oyediran and Chief Yemi Soladoye, the President-General of  Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes. ((NAN)
