Abuja, March 8, 2018 (NAN) The Nigerian Military says the army’s innovation, researches and hardware was for the advancement of the profession and benefit of the Nigerian society at large.
Lt.-Col. Sagir Lawal made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Nigerian Defence Academy stand at ongoing Technology and Innovation Expo 2018 on Thursday in Abuja.
“Our mission is to produce quality officers with required skills and competence to maintain, develop and produce hardware required for the advancement of the military and Nigerian society at large.
“The Faculty of Engineering of the Defence Academy decided to bring out innovations that will solve its problem and other societal problems.
“The faculty has identified research projects by cadets, post graduate students and staff of the faculty in order to improve and develop them for patenting and marketing.
“We are collaborating with Defence Industries Corporation (DICON) to bring the products to the market,’’ he said.
Lawal said the military was into research like any other institutions, adding that it uses locally sourced materials for the products.
He said military knew the problems it was facing so it decided to solve them by going into research in order to come out with innovations that would help in line of its duty.
Lawal said in bringing the academy’s researches and innovations, the theme of the Expo, which is “Fast Tracking Sustainable Development of Nigeria through Science and Technology’’ was considered.
He said the research and innovations displayed were produced by Cadets and Post Graduates students of the institute.
NAN reports that some of the innovations and researches displayed are Fingerprint Recognition for Rifle operation, Automatic Flush Water Closet, Solarised Electronic Controlled WheelChair, Radio Frequency Identification for Armoury Management, among others.
The objectives of the expo include promotion of Research and Development (R&D) activities, commercialising R & D results and products and services of research in tertiary institutions.
Also inventors/innovators and manufacturing sector showcase their achievements and breakthroughs in the science, technology, innovators at the expo organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology. (NAN)
