Lagos, March 7, 2018 (NAN) Dame Abimbola Fashola, the wife of Minister of Power, Works and Housing, on Wednesday enjoined women in construction industry to embrace digitalisation methods in the course of their profession to remain relevant.

Fashola gave the advice at a seminar and investiture of the 5th Women Association of Quantity Surveyors of Nigeria (WAQSN) Chairperson in Lagos.

Theme of the investiture was: “Uncharted Territory of Growth for Professionals in a Digital Construction Economy.’’

She said that women should collaborate and network with other professional women groups in Nigeria and across the globe.

According to her, we are in the world of digitalisation and women need to join the race.

“It is through collaboration that the standard and impacts of women will be felt and continue to provide support and platforms for the young females in the profession to grow,” Fashola said.

Earlier, Prof. Olubola Babalola, the immediate past chairperson of WAQSN, said that construction industry needs to up its game in competing in the world of digitalisation.

Babalola said that construction industry still lags behind in the advancement of digitalisation.

“Digital construction methods make the operations and delivery of built environment safer, more efficient and more collaborative.

“Digital tools and practices aggregate our data, streamline the way we work and challenge the status quo.

“While other industries are already benefiting, the construction industry still lags behind. It is unfortunate that the construction industry is among the least digitalised.

“By now, we should be talking about 5-D Building Information Modeling (BIM), Digital collaboration and Mobility, Internet of Things (IoT) and Future-proof Design of construction,” she said.

Also, Mr Olusegun Ajanlekoko, a past President of NIQS, said that the electronic tendering and digital procurement platform that saves time and money were the norms that must be followed by every successful business.

Ajanlekoko said that by introducing digital methods, professions, firms and companies would become more productive and effective.

“The move is about digital data, digital access, automation and connectivity. The companies that ignore keys to digitalisation run the risk of falling behind their rivals,” Ajanlekoko said. (NAN)
