By Muhammad Nasir Bashir
Dutse, March 3, 2018 (NAN) The Jigawa Government says it has begun the construction of a drainage channel for a one-kilometre road in Kachi community, Dutse Local Government Area, to control erosion in the area.
Malam Usman Babannan, the spokesman of Jigawa Ministry of Works and Transport, said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Friday.
Babannan said that Mr Salisu Muhammad, the Managing Director of Jigawa State Road Maintenance Agency (JIRMA), said that N38 million would be spent on the project when he visited the site on Thursday.
“Jigawa State Government is to expend N38 million on the one-kilometre drainage construction project in Kachi village.
“The Managing Director of JIRMA said that the state government approved funding for the project because of the perennial menace of erosion in the area, which threatens the people’s lives and property in the community,’’ he said.
Babannan quoted Muhammad as saying when that the project was completed, it would go a long way in mitigating the menace of erosion in the neighbourhood.
He said that the design of the project entailed concrete flooring and construction of drainage channels with special, strong blocks.
Babannan said that the project would be completed by the end of March.
He said that the JIRMA boss called on the members of Kachi community to cooperate with the construction workers to facilitate hitch-free completion of the project.
“He also urged them to protect all the projects which state government had executed in their community from vandalism,’’ he added. (NAN)
