Abuja, March. 1, 2018 (NAN) Ace photographer Godswill Ayemoba has called for the setting up of structured funding opportunities for the photography industry in the country.

Ayemoba, a culture and event photography expert told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that although the Nigerian photography industry is growing, adequate funding from private sector, state and Federal Government will expand it further.

He said that finance was a major challenge in the industry, especially for young aspiring photographers, as expensive equipment and lack of immediate profit might scare them away from the profession.

“Young aspiring photographers ought to have places where they can submit well written proposals and get funding for their dreams, this way; the sky will be the limit for them.

“Lack of finance is a major limiting factor in the industry. You need money to improve your photography knowledge, to buy equipment and expand your horizon,” Ayemoba said.

Ayemoba told NAN that the few financial opportunities open for the creative industry are not photography specific and they are relatively unknown, except to experienced photographers.

“Photographers do not know how to access funds, and they need to be key players in financial environments before they can know the opportunities available,” Ayemoba said.

He stressed the need for government to pay attention to the photography industry, adding that photography can solve the issues of the society, especially security challenges.

According to him, “Photography needs to be properly harnessed for the benefits to become glaring.

“Documentation in photography is equally important so as to keep captured information for the next generation,” he said.

He further urged photographers to strive to do their best in whatever aspect of photography they venture into and remain focus and not be distracted by glamour.

Ayemoba recently had a joint exhibition with Julius Omogbai, entitled: “Celebrating the beauty of the Abuja carnival’’.(NAN)
