Competence

By Lilian Chukwu

Lagos, Feb. 28, 2018 (NAN)  A real estate consultant, Mr Chudi Ubosi, has advised operators in the building industry to regularly upgrade their skills to  remain relevant.

Ubosi, the Africa President, International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI), gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.

The consultant said that the operators should boost their competences through involvement in professional programmes to survive competition.

“”The world and the industry are becoming more competitive and, many of us may be left behind.

“”This makes it paramount for professionals in the industry to continually upgrade their skills to add more value to their services and meet international standards.

“”Unless we stand our ground and maintain the standards of the profession, we may be swept away by the economic challenges of the country.

“”Let us seek ways to lift the building construction industry by continually embarking on researches and programmes that will enhance our skills and standards of operation,” he said.

According to him, whenever there is recession in an economy, the construction sector is worst hit, resulting in scarcity of construction activities/contracts and loss of jobs.

Ubosi said that the industry had yet to recover from the effects of the economic recession recently experienced in the country.

He, however, expressed  optimistism that by the second half of 2018, much improvement would be recorded in the industry.

He urged the Federal Government to invest in the sector, saying that it had the potential to gainfully employ a large number of people at the same time, thereby assisting in economic recovery. (NAN)
