Omu-Aran (Kwara), Feb. 27, 2018 (NAN) Two men — Bamidele Sogo and Olawale Lawal — allegedly stole cash nuts from a farm, were on Tuesday remanded in Omu-Aran Medium Prison in Kwara pending the conclusion of police investigations.

Sogo, who lives at GRA in Omu-Aran with his accomplice, Lawal, of Okeki compound, Omu-Aran, are to remain behind bars on the orders of Omu-Aran Area Court Judge, Mr Abolade Banigbe.

The accused — 22-year-old Sogo, a bricklayer and 21-year-old Lawal, a sign writer — are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, causing hurt and theft.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor Adebola Atobatele told the court that the accused had on Feb. 22 at 4.00 p.m. broke into a cashew farm in Omu-Aran and stole cash nuts.

He said the farm belong to the complainants — Bisi Popoola and Olarenwaju Oyeyipo of Ile-Oba compound, Omu-Aran.

Atobatele said both Popoola and Oyeyipo, following a tip-off, stormed the farm and confronted the accused.

“It was in the process that the accused, armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, inflicted injuries on the heads and hands of Popoola and Oyeyipo.”

The offences contravened Sections 97, 240 and 287 of the Penal Code.

He said the three other accomplices were still at large while investigation continues.

The prosecutor had earlier objected to the bail for the accused, saying granting them bail will interfere with police investigation.

The case has been adjourned until March 19. (NAN)
