IDPs

Katagum (Bauchi State), Feb. 26, 2018 (NAN) The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCRMI) has empowered and distributed educational materials to over 500 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Bauchi State.
Speaking during the distribution on Monday in Katagum, the Federal Commissioner, Hajiya Sadiya Faruoq, said the items were meant to assist IDPs in Jama’are and Katagum Local Governments to rebuild their economic lives and enhance learning in the schools.
Faruoq, represented by Mrs Shizzer Badar, the Director, IDP, in the Commission, said that the Federal Government would continue to provide humanitarian assistance to ensure that IDPs skills were developed in various trades.
“The learning materials for the school children is to ensure that they obtain basic education in their various schools.
“The Federal government will provide care and solution to the IDPs through humanitarian assistance.
” The Federal Government will ensure that the plight of IDPs is addressed through various empowerment programmes to enable them to become economically vibrant.
“The priority of the Federal Government is to provide security and sustainability to the IDPs and many of these gestures will come to the IDPs,” she said.
In his remarks, Gov. Mohammed Abdullahi of Bauchi State, represented by the Chief of Staff, Bauchi Government House, Mr Audu Sule, thanked the commission for the gesture, saying that it would improve the lives of the IDPs.
Abdullahi said that the state government was grateful for the various interventions by the present administration to provide succour to IDPs affected by insurgency.
Similarly, the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Farouq, warned the beneficiaries against re-selling the items for financial gains, advising them to make judicious use of them.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items included grinding and block making machines, educational materials, food flask and water bottles, among others.
Malam Ladidi Sabo and Mrs Aisha Mohammed, some of the beneficiaries, who spoke with NAN commended the Federal Government for providing the IDPs with a means of livelihood and educational materials for their children. (NAN)
