Abuja, Feb. 22, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced 25-year-old man, Olamide Adebayo, to four months imprisonment for stealing N5,400 and a cell phone worth N9,000.
Adebayo of Kuje Area Council, Abuja, was earlier arraigned on a four-count charge of joint act, criminal force, assault and theft.
The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced the convict accordingly when he pleaded guilty to the charges.
The judge also ordered the convict to pay N14, 500 as compensation to the complainant.
He warned the convict to be of good behaviour and to desist from committing crimes after serving out his punishment.
The prosecuting counsel, Mrs Florence Auhioboh, had earlier informed the court that one Abdullahi Baba of Prince and Princess Estate, Karmo, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on Feb. 15.
Auhioboh said on the same date, the convict and three others now at large, attacked and assaulted the complainant at Total Filling Station by Sky Memorial, Wuse.
She told the court that the convict accosted the complainant while he was on queue to buy fuel and asked him to give him N 500 for no cause.
She said that the complainant refused, in the process the convict forcefully collected his wallet containing N5, 400 and one Nokia cell phone valued at N9, 000.
Auhioboh said that during police investigation, the convict admitted committing the offences.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 79, 265 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
