Donation
Ohaozara (Ebonyi), Feb. 21, 2018 (NAN) The Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi, Mrs Nkechinyere Iyioku, has donated 300 KVA transformer each to three communities in the locality and a house to a widow.
The three benefiting communities are Uburu, Okposi and Ugwulanugwu while Mrs Mary Okoronkwoede, an indigent widow from Okposi Achara, received one-bed room apartment.
The chairman made the donation on Wednesday, at the grand finale of Mrs Rachael Umahi Women for Akubaraoha 2019 at the council area.
Iyioku said that the gesture was the council’s way of complementing the efforts of the state Governor’s wife, Mrs Rachael Umahi, in transformation of lives of indigent ones in the society.
She noted that the transformer would boost the socio-economic activities in the area.
“I was motivated by the widow’s plight that has been squatting with relatives following her collapsed house.
“Also to emulate the leadership style of the Governor and his wife, especially, in the uplift of lives of the people in rural areas,’’ Iyioku said.
Mr Austin Umahi, National Vice Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), South-East Zone and Chairman of the occasion commended the governor’s wife for laying good foundation for women’s participation in politics.
“Ebonyi people are grateful for your numerous achievements made through your pet project, Family Succor and Uplift Foundation, we urge you not to relent,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mrs Umahi has visited all the 13 local government areas of the state, where she re-awakened the consciousness of women in politics and sued for peaceful coexistence. (NAN)
