NGO honours 2 Oyo lawmakers for excellent representation

Ibadan, Feb. 20, 2018 (NAN) Centre for Ethics and Self Value Evaluation (CESVO), a Lokoja-based NGO, has inducted two Oyo lawmakers into the hall of fame as Ambassadors of Ethics and Conscience.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ceremony was held at the Parliament Secretariat in Ibadan on Tuesday.
The two lawmakers inducted into the hall of fame were Mr Ademola Ige (Accord Party- Ibadan South East Constituency II) and Mr Gbenga Oyekola (LP- Atiba State constituency).
Mr Salih Yakubu, Executive Director, CESVO, said the organisation was a non-state-actor majored in exposing corruption, promoting ethical leadership, providing ethical education and value orientation of global citizens.
“Our organisation engages in secret independent assessment project to Federal, States, Local Government Areas and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) annually.
“This is with a view to conducting an independent multi-sectoral secret assessment project on public officials without their prior knowledge to avoid any possible influence on their work,’’ he said.
Yakubu stated that Ige and Oyekola were selected, having scored 78 and 77 per cent, respectively, in the legislators’ performance appraisal score cards.
He said that the duo emerged amongst the first 100 highly rated most ethically responsible state legislators in Nigeria for 2017 due to their past and present antecedents.
According to him: “We have ensured presence in most of their programmes and activities.
“We sampled opinions and interviewed the citizens including workers on your stewardship so far as a member of the state assembly.
“We have interviewed market women, artisans, security personnel, students, women and youth organisations as well as non-indigenous men and women residing in their constituency.
“We have been keeping close watch on your quality service delivery. From our findings, you have used character to change the pattern of representation of the people as exemplified by our heroes past.
“We are indeed overwhelmed by your people’s testimonies of your leadership style and your recommendations during our field work at your constituency.’’
Yakubu explained that 50 tertiary institutions, 12 commissioners and senior officers of the police, 50 federal MDAs, 13 Senators and 38 members of the House of Representatives emerged in the 2017 assessment.
Others on the list were 50 private hospitals, six states Houses of Assembly with 100 individual state legislators, among others, emerged most ethically responsible organisations/individuals.
In their remarks, Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji; and Oba Saheed Adufe, Oba Yoruba Republic of Ireland, eulogised the awardees for embarking on humanitarian services and providing quality representation to the people, irrespective of constituencies.
Oyekola, who spoke on behalf of the awardees applauded the organisation for founding them worthy, which he said is a result of their resolved to making life better for the people they were representing.
He said that they would not relent in their efforts at improving the lives of the people.
Oyekola attributed corruption and immoral acts in the country to a rotten value system, promised that they would contribute their quota towards promoting core value system.
NAN reports that Mr Mufutau Ogunremi, Deputy State Chairman, PDP in Oyo State, and Asiwaju Nurudeen Akinade, Chairman Ibadan Week Festival 2018, were among other dignitaries that attended the event. (NAN)
