Lagos, Feb. 16, 2018 (NAN) A warehouse guard, Kingsley Bassey, and his accomplice, who allegedly stole N6 million worth of Nestle Foods products, were on Friday brought before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accomplice, Osita Ukommadu, allegedly received the products belonging to Bassey’s employer.
Bassey, 27, and Ukommadu, 44, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, theft and receipt of stolen goods.
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty.
But Police Prosecutor Uche Simeon told the court that the accused committed the crime on Jan. 29 on Aka Road, Okokomaik, Lagos.
He alleged that Bassey stole 470 cartons of Milo, Nescafe Coffee, Golden Morn (cereal), NAN baby cereal respectively and 76 cartons of Maggi seasoning, all valued at N6 million.
“The complainant, Fola Global Quest Ltd., a distributor for Nestle Foods, hired Bassy to guard the warehouse.
“Unknown to them, Bassey who has access to the warehouse, has been stealing cartons of their products and giving it his partner, Ukommadu, to sell at his provision store.
“Bassey was, however, caught by another security guard who resumed for work earlier than the normal time,”Uche said.
The offences contravened Sections 287 (7), 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 (7) stipulates seven year jail term, while Section 328 prescribes six months imprisonment or N90, 000 fine. Section 411 provides two years for offenders.
The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Adesanya, granted the accused N1 million bail with two sureties each in like sum.
He said the sureties must be relations of the accused and must be gainfully employed.
The case was adjourned until March 26. (NAN)
