Mararaba (Nasarawa State), Feb. 16, 2018 (NAN) For stealing a sport bicycle worth N20,000, a 23-year-old man, Lukman
Yahaya, is to spend the next six months in prison, a Mararaba Upper Area Court in Nasarawa State, ruled on Friday.

Yahaya, a resident of Ruga Village, Mararaba, had pleaded guilty to a charge of theft and begged for leniency.

The Judge, Mr Ibrahim Shekarau, who handed down the verdict, however, gave the convict an option of N8, 000 fine.

He ordered him to pay N3, 000 as cost of recovering the stolen bicycle.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor Godwin Ejeh had told the court that the complainant, Mr Sulaiman of the same address with the accused reported the case at the Divisional Police Station, Mararaba, on Jan. 14.

Ejeh said the complainant alleged that the accused stole his sport bicycle valued at N20, 000 which he parked at Hashimu Cemetery, Mararaba.

The offence contravened Section 287of the Penal Code. (NAN)
