Tricycle

Lagos, Feb. 16, 2018 (NAN) Peter Alex, a 35-year-old transporter, who allegedly obtained N115,000 on the pretext of selling a secondhand tricycle to a man, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, who resides at 12, Adeyinka Osho St., Agege, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
The accused committed the offences sometime in November 2017 in Agege, Lagos, according to Police Prosecutor Samuel Ishola.
He told the court that Alex promised to sell a secondhand tricycle to the complainant, Mr Saka Sulaimon, for N115,000.
“The complainant paid the money into the accused’s account only to discover that it was not the accused that was the owner of the tricycle.
“Efforts to recover his money failed,” he said, adding that the case was reported at the police station which led to the arrest of the accused.
The offences violated Sections 285 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 provides three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 314 stipulates 15 years for obtaining money under false pretences.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate A. R. Onilogbo granted the accused a bail of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. and adjourned the case until March 5. (NAN)
