Enugu, Feb. 15, 2018 (NAN) Mrs Ann Ezeigwe, Principal Physiotherapist, Enugu State Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), says regular exercise during pregnancy helps babies to develop high Intelligent Quotient (IQ).
Ezeigwe told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday that children born by mothers who engaged in regular exercise during pregnancy had zero chances of cerebral problem.
She said that rather than suffer cerebral problem, which could be caused by delay in supply of oxygen during delivery, the baby would have high IQ.
According to her, children born with high IQ tend to be thinner because they do not accumulate much fat due to the exercise by their mothers during pregnancy.
She urged pregnant women to always exercise their body, eat a well balance diet for safe delivery, so as to have a healthy child with well developed brain.
The physiotherapist called on postpartum mothers (mothers who had just delivered newly) to avoid using wrappers or belt in tying their stomach.
Ezeigwe said that use of wrappers or belts could cause problem of haemorrhoid (pile) for such women.
“It is better to engage physiotherapist when you do not know the exercise you are supposed to carry out as a pregnant woman or after delivery.
“Try as much as possible to avoid tying wrapper on your stomach in order not to have problem of haemorrhoid,” she advised. (NAN)
