Appreciations

Mashi (Katsina State), Feb 11 2018 (NAN) The Katsina State Government has expressed appreciation to the electorate over their high turnout in the just concluded supplementary elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted the election in the Mashi/Dutsi Federal Constituency of the state.

Dr Mustapha Inuwa, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), made the remark in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Mashi on Sunday.

Inuwa, who was commenting on the outcome of the elections held in 15 polling units in the constituency, described the elections as  as a huge success of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

He, however called on the winner of the election to continue to carry the people of the constituency along with a view to strengthening the party.

“We attribute our success in this election to God and the electorate, who again, and painstakingly, voted for our party  en-mass,” he said.

The SSG said the  party won  the elections  with higher number of votes more than the scores it recorded during the last by-elections conducted in May 2017 in the same constituency .

He said the overwhelming victory of the party was a clear testimony  that Katsina was an APC controlled state, stressing “we would sweep all  future polls without misgivings because our performances in our  last two years in office are very wonderful” .

He lauded the electorate and security agencies for peaceful conduct of the elections, saying “we equally commend INEC for being very resilient, especially in the delivery of elections materials to the designated polling units”.

Inuwa, who said the state government would continue to provide the dividend of democracy across the nooks and crannies of the state, stressed that the governor had been very prudent and hardworking.

He noted that the state government had, in the last two and a half  years, spent billions of naira to promote education, health, roads, youth empowerment and security.

According to him, the mass defection of PDP members into the ruling party in the state is due to the open door policy of the Aminu Masari administration.

He stressed that APC, as a party, welcomes everybody into its fold without discrimination, contempt or disdain.

The SGS called on people of the state to continue to rally round the state and federal governments in order to achieve the intended reforms and record rapid socio-economic development.

He said the Katsina State Government  was solidly in support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s transformation agenda in agriculture, education, anti corruption drive as well as promotion of security nationwide.

NAN reports that during the Saturday’s election, Mansur Mashi of the APC was declared winner with 30,719 votes while Nazifi Yusuf of the PDP came second with 20,069 votes (NAN)
