Ikeja, Feb. 8, 2018 (NAN) A 25-year-old Beninoise housekeeper, Sadikuo Ramano, who allegedly bolted with his employer’s jewellery and watches worth N2.3 million, on Thursday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused is standing trial before the Magistrate, Mrs O.J. Awope, on a charge of stealing.
Ramano, who lives with his employer, however, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to a bail of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Awope said that the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment.
Earlier,the Police Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in 2014 at Omole Estate Phase 2, Ikeja.
He said the accused, a citizen of Benin Republic, allegedly stole Mr Tobak Oku’s property worth N2.3 million and ran to his country.
The property include stolen a laptop valued at N200, 000, gold jewellery, watches worth N1.5 million and N600,000 cash.
“The complainant returned from a journey to discover that his room had been ransacked and that the accused had carted away his valuables.
“Efforts to trace the whereabouts of the accused were unsuccessful.”
He said three years after his disappearance, luck ran against the accused as he was later arrested by the person who introduced him to the complainant.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates three years imprisonment for offenders.
The magistrate has adjourned the case until Feb. 19. (NAN)
