Factory worker, 39, faces sexual assault of minor charge

Lagos, Feb. 7, 2018(NAN) A 39-year-old,  Emmanuel Ogeigwaita, who allegedly lured a minor into his room and thrust his fingers into her private part, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, a factory worker, who resides at 15, Matthew St., Pero, Agege,a suburb of Lagos, is standing trial on a count charge of sexual assault.

Police Prosecutor Clifford Ogu told the court that the offence was committed on Feb. 2 at the apartment of the accused.

Ogu said the three-year-old girl was playing with her friends outside when the accused called her into his room and assaulted her.

“The accused fingered the girl’s private parts and warned her not to tell anyone.

“It was when she was experiencing pains in her private parts that she was forced to tell her mother — `uncle put his hand in my …, ” he said.

The offence contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section prescribes seven years imprisonment for offenders.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni granted the accused bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until March 12. (NAN)
