Commissioner advocates more private sector investment in sports

Port Harcourt, Feb. 7, 2018(NAN) The Commissioner for Sports in Rivers, Mr Boma Iyaye, has called for more private sector investment in sports in the state to ensure better performance of athletes and wealth creration.
Iyaye made the call on Wednesday in Port Harcourt while speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of a public event.
He said the organised private sector should complement the efforts of the state government by investing in training, sponsorship and competitions.
He described sports as a veritable tool for harnessing the resources of the youth.
The commissioner said that the economic realities of the time had made it difficult for government alone to develop other the state and handle sports projects.
Iyaye said that sports had the ability to build favourable image and generate good returns on investment if well handled.
“We have a rising generation of sports-loving youth; they are in fact our assets for breakthrough in the sports sector.
“We should all work together to assist them develop their potentials so that they can in return, earn us a pride of place in the world of sports,” he said.
He however commended Gov. Nyesom Wike’s administration for taking steps towards harnessing the potentials of youths in the state through sports development (NAN)
