Court sustains bail granted 4 security guards docked over alleged negligent conduct

Abuja, Feb.6, 2018(NAN) A Gudu Upper Area Court judge, Abuja, Mr Sidi Rufai, on Tuesday sustained the bail granted to four security guards by his predecessor, Mr Umar Kagarko.
The security guards- Daniel Dafin, Apine Aondohemba, Philip Peter, and Emmanuel Abebehi, of Arpon Security Services were first docked on Aug.14, 2017, on a count charge of negligent conduct.
They had pleaded not guilty and the former judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, had granted them bail in the sum of N600, 000 each, with a surety each in like sum.
Upon the retirement of Kargarko, the defendants took a fresh plea before the new judge, while the Defense Counsel, Mr Max Akoh-Onoja, prayed the court to allow the defendants remain on previous bail granted them.
Akoh-Onoja told the court that the case had suffered three adjournments, yet none of the defendants had ever been absent in court.
The new judge, Mr Sidi Rufai, upheld the previous bail granted with the same conditions attached and adjourned hearing on the matter until April 10.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Adeniyi Oyeyemi, told the court that one Dambie Great of No.19 Gado Nasko St., Kubwa, reported the matter at Maitama Police Station on July 7, 2017.
Oyeyemi said that the four security guards were attached to No. 2 Urugua St. Wuse, and according to their confession, they “failed in their duty and slept throughout the night.’’
He said this negligent conduct “allowed unknown persons to break into the premises and stole two 55 inches television and three pairs of shoes, all valued at N2.8 million.
The prosecutor said the offence is contrary to Section 196 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
