Para-sports athletes elect federation boards representatives ahead Feb. 15 national polls

Lagos, Jan. 30, 2018 (NAN) Four para-sports federations held elections on Tuesday in Lagos into the offices of Technical Directors and Athletes’ Representatives on their respective boards.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the federations are para-powerlifting, wheelchair basketball, sitting vollyball and para-athletics.

In the para-powerlifting elections, Ruel Ishiaku and Lucy Ejike were elected unopposed as the Technical Director and Athletes’ Representative.

O’Brien Adoki and Mohammed Audu were elected as the Technical Director and Athletes’ Representative in wheelchair basketball, while Chris Martins and Abejide Ademola respectively emerged in sitting volleyball.

The para-athletics’ technical director and athletes’ representative positions went to Ojo Peter and Anthony Imobimoh respectively.

NAN reports that the elections were monitored by officials from the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development.

Meanwhile, Lauretta Onye, a 2016 Paralympics gold medalist, has expressed delight in the peaceful conduct of the elections.

“I am happy at the way it was conducted because everything was transparent, and the turnout was massive. It was witnessed by officials from the Sports Ministry,’’ she said.

Bose Omolayo, another Paralympian, said the election was also free and fair as representatives of states’ Sports Councils attended the exercise.

“The states were given the opportunity to elect their representatives into the boards. We thank God for successful elections.

“It was really free and fair, because we made sure that the people we elected were persons that have our interests at heart,’’ she said.

On her part, Are Feyisetan said she was pleased with the way athletes conducted themselves during the elections.

“What is left now is for officers to live up to expectations and by carrying all stakeholders along’’, Feyisetan said.

NAN reports that the election of zonal representatives, vice presidents and presidents of para-sports federations will hold on Feb. 15 in Abuja.(NAN)
