Mararaba (Nasarawa) Abuja, Jan. 30, 2017 (NAN) Residents of Abacha Road, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, have commended the state government for repairing the three kilometres old Karu road and making life easier for commuters.

They applauded the efforts of the state government in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

Mr Anthony Idoko, a Civil Engineer, who resides in the area, said that the road rehabilitation by Gov. Tanko Al-Makura is highly commendable as it has alleviated the sufferings of the people living in the area.

Idoko added that the quality of materials used in repairing the road and the excavation of side drainage would make the road to last and curb flooding in the area.

“The use of fine bearing coarse asphalt by the government to repair the road as well as culverts makes the road a standard one that will last long.

“With the quality of material used and excavation of side drains, I am sure the road would stay for a reasonable number of years before it fails.

“Because one of the greatest factor that leads to pavement failure is the effect of water both surface and underground but with a good drainage system now in place, the road would last long.

“This drainage system will also help in reducing flooding on the road, because previously anytime there is a down pour, the entire road gets flooded, because the drainage were blocked,’’ he said.

He said it is now easier and smoother to drive on the road, stating that driving from his house to the junction formerly takes him 25 minutes but now it’s just 10 minutes.

Also, Mr Haruna Yakubu, a motorcyclist (Okada rider) who operates in Mararaba, expressed delight about the repair on the road.

He thanked the governor for having their interest at heart.

He added that due to the road repair his business was presently thriving as it takes him less than five minutes to drop a customer and pick another one.

“Now my business is going very smooth and easy as I am enjoying the road,’’ Yakubu said.

Mrs Lois Nwachukwu, who owns a baby shop on the road, also commended the governor for fixing the road.

She stated that in her seven years of residing in that area the road has been very bad and car owners hardly use the road.

She noted that it would boost her business, since the road was completely fixed, saying that more people use the road now and many of them stop by at my shop to buy things for their babies.

Nwachuwkwu added that the newly repaired road has opened up her shop and made it more obvious for customers to patronise.

Another resident, Mr Fortress Saidu, said that formerly, anytime he plies the old Karu road he must take his car to the mechanic for repair.

“I cannot believe that this is the old Karu road I used to know, this repair is amazing, using this road now is a delight for me.

“Before, if you get stuck in traffic on this road be sure to spend nothing less than an hour or two but now traffic here takes just 20 minutes or less.

“I am so happy about this road and I thank the Nasarawa state government for this achievement and other roads the government had repaired in this Mararaba, this shows development,’’ Saidu said.

NAN reports that the old Karu road links Mararaba junction to old Karu in the FCT but the repair stopped at the boundary between Nasarawa and the FCT.(NAN)
